black and white photo of a busy street According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, over 38,000 people in the United States die in traffic crashes every year. That makes traffic accidents the leading cause of death for United States citizens ages 1 to 54 years old.

Additionally, over four million people annually are seriously injured in traffic collisions to the point that they require medical attention. The economic cost of motor vehicle accidents for U.S. citizens annually is estimated to be $871 billion

It’s clear that the costs of traffic collisions in the United States, both in dollar amount and in human life, is enormous and devastating. One of the main causes of this expensive and tragic problem is the fact that roadways in the United States are dangerous, for a variety of different reasons.

What Makes Roadways in the U.S. so Dangerous?

Why are U.S. roadways so dangerous? According to, studies suggest that there are a number of different factors contributing to the dangerous state of U.S. roads, including traffic congestion, distracted and aggressive driving behaviors, alternative forms of transportation traveling on roadways not built to accommodate them safely, and roads that are in disrepair.

It’s worth paying attention to the last factor that they mention, deteriorating and crumbling roads and infrastructure. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, on average 49% of the roads in each state are considered to be in poor or mediocre condition. In Colorado alone, the average is a whopping 70%!

According to the 2017 Infrastructure Report Card released by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the infrastructure of the United States gets an abysmal grade of a D+. That is a surprisingly low grade for the richest country in the world.

The main cause of the failing infrastructure in the country is essentially underfunding. The ASCE estimates that it would cost upwards of $2 trillion dollars to repair roads and bridges in the U.S., but total public spending on infrastructure has been greatly reduced over the course of more than a decade.

Without the proper resources being allocated to fixing our crumbling infrastructure, traffic collision fatalities that could have been avoided will continue to occur, and we will continue to spend massive amounts of our national wealth on the disastrous consequences of roads that are unsafe to travel upon.

I don’t know where I would be without the Law Offices of Robert Paysinger. It was a very emotional experience, and I feel as if I owe Mr. Paysinger my life! The other lawyers would promise everything, but it was only here that I felt his integrity and willingness to live up to his word. He and the paralegals were so incredibly helpful throughout the strenuous process of my case. Going through a lawsuit is an emotional roller coaster, but whenever I was confused they would sit and explain everything in terms that I could understand. They provided an emotional support and treated me like family. It’s never about the money there, but about you, if you are upset they will do everything to help you, and work extremely hard for you. They are extremely honest and straight forward. I would recommend Mr. Paysinger to everyone, because they truly and genuinely care about you.

I had a horrible experience with my boss and dealing with my company regarding my workman’s comp. I came to the Paysinger Law Offices and received a settlement for what was needed to further my medical care so that I can heal and get back to work.
